Subject: INFO: Reuse old XT FD/1P/2S/G cards
Yes, ok these things are ancient, but in case you ever need to add
another serial or parallel port to a PC and you have one of these
things handy...
Because of the floppy controller on board, they will clash with the
floppy controller on the combo card or the motherboard. So you have to
disable the FD chip. Here's how:
Cut the connection to Send/~Receive pin of the 74LS245 that is the
transceiver for the 765/8272 FD controller chip.
Cut IRQ6 and DREQ2 near the gold fingers.
Sorry you have to look up some PC hardware reference to find out where
the traces are. But you should know what you are doing anyway before
you try this.
You now have a card without any FD capability that can be used for the
serial and parallel ports. Have fun.
